Become a Volunteer

Nonprofits that work to end homelessness and barriers to employment are one of the most rewarding organizations to volunteer for in the Denver community. When you volunteer at Bayaud Enterprises you are helping people gain self-esteem and self-sufficiency through employment.

To join our volunteer programs, contact us, or call Benn Stebleton at 303-830-6885.

Benefits of Volunteering at Bayaud

  • Flexible Hours

Volunteer hours are flexible. Whether you want to come in for 2 hours a week or a full day, we can accommodate your needs and schedule, but we are only open during regular business hours 8:30 – 4:30 pm.

  • Resume Builder

Bayaud volunteer positions are great resume builders. They can also serve to fill in a gap in employment, if you are currently unemployed. By volunteering at Bayaud you will gain a job reference and earn a letter of recommendation upon request.

  • Make New Friends

We have volunteers from all ages and walks of life. When you work with us you will work side by side with other involved individuals and obtain a new community network.

  • Volunteer Appreciation Events

We host happy hours and other events for our volunteers bi-annually where you can meet other volunteers, swap stories, and revel in the good feelings of bringing hope for homeless communities.

Staff Training

When you volunteer with us, you are invited to attend the same staff training that our employees attend. Past training programs have included:

  • Domestic Violence Training covers how to work with victims of domestic violence and the resources available to them.

  • Mental Health First Aid addresses how to interact with someone who might be having a psychotic episode or other mental illness symptoms.

  • Graphic Design Training includes the basics of layout, graphic design, and the fundamentals of good design.

  • Volunteer Positions

Bayaud employs 120 – 150 volunteers every year. Our volunteers vary in age from college students to retirees. We welcome people with physical and mental disabilities to volunteer with us as well. There are numerous ongoing and sporadic volunteer opportunities to choose from. Ongoing needs include data entry, computer room assistant, computer skills tutoring and clerical assistance. Sporadic volunteer opportunities include helping with special events.

    Volunteer Application Process

    • You’ll fill out an application and a staff member will review it.

    • A background check will be performed.

    • If your application and background check meet our requirements, you will interview with our volunteer coordinator and another staff member.

Student Volunteer Programs & Unpaid Internships

For current college students or recent graduates, we offer unpaid internships for college credit. We can work with you to find volunteer opportunities that fit your skills, interests, and schedule.

    • Community Resource Navigation Internship

For students seeking a graduate degree in social work, we offer a full year Community Resource Navigation internship through the University of Denver. This role will give hands-on experience in various social and human services areas.

    • Marketing Internship

Students at the Auraria Campus can apply for a semester-long marketing internship where you will learn the basics of social enterprise and nonprofit marketing. Undergraduate and graduate students in Communication, Business, Marketing and Economics can apply directly to Bayaud or through their departmental office at Auraria.

    • Vocational Evaluation Internship

Undergraduate and graduate social work students can gain hands-on experience in vocational assessments, vocational rehabilitation, and mentoring through Bayaud’s Rehabilitation Assessment LINK TO REHAB ASSESSMENT PAGE program. Check with your academic department or apply directly to Bayaud for this semester or year-long opportunity.

Ways to Volunteer in Your Community

We have volunteer opportunities that coincide with our fundraising and special events initiatives. These events include the following:

    • ArtWalk

In the Fall we turn our offices into an art gallery for one evening when we host an ArtWalk. It is an auction that features the work of local fine artists. Visitors can bid on their artwork and a portion of the proceeds benefit Bayaud Enterprises and our many human services and homeless outreach programs. We need volunteers to help with the planning, promotion, and execution of this event.

    • Winter Holiday Party

Every winter we have a holiday party with Santa for all of our service users and their families. A large meal is served, Santa gives out toys, we hire a DJ, and there is lively music and dancing. We rely on about thirty volunteers to staff this festive event.

    • Annual Appeal Mailings

Twice a year we mail out an annual appeal letter to our donor list. We count on volunteers to help us facilitate the mailing.

    • Employment First Program

If you are required through Employment First program to do 23 hours of community service a month, Bayaud Enterprises is a worthwhile venue to donate your time to. Not only are we a recognized host site for the Employment First program, but we are a nonprofit that helps disadvantaged, low-income people in the community find sustainable employment.
