Challenge
“I am a mother of six children. I am still raising three of my children, which makes things hard. Especially when I was depressed for more than four years…. in the four years that I was depressed I did not work at all.”
Before: Patricia was unemployed due to her debilitating depression, and was unable to support her family.
After: Patricia is now successfully completing her transitional work adjustment position as a Bayaud Enterprises receptionist, and will be assisted with her transition to outside employment.
What it took to make the difference…
“I moved to Colorado from New Mexico because my mother was here, and I could live with her. I was struggling to keep my family together, and had no job. I applied for Denver housing and was able to move out on my own, but I was depressed and could not find work. Being jobless made my depression worse, and I felt like I would not be able to succeed. A friend recommended that I go to the office of Vocational Rehabilitation, and my counselor there connected me to Bayaud Enterprises. When I got to Bayaud Enterprises, I went through a vocational evalution to see what my skills and strengths were. They decided that I would be good at a clerical job, and I was given the three-month transition job as the Bayaud Enterprises receptionist. When this position is over, they will help me move into another job where I can learn more and become a better worker.”
Now I’m successful.
“I received on the job training as a receptionist, learning about the phone system, using the computer, and helping greet people. The skills I have learned will help me find another job, and it has helped me come out of my depression - it helped a lot.”
“I am more confident now because I have this training - I am good at my job, and I am hopeful for new work. I have been given a new start.”
Lessons Learned
Patricia has received valuable job training to help reintroduce her to the workforce, while building the confidence she needs to continue to be successful.
